The Newfoundland and Labrador English School District would like to inform you of some work that is commencing at Holy Heart of Mary High School. Some years back, the school was converted from oil-based heat to electric boilers. The unused plant components that remain originally heated not only Holy Heart, but Brother Rice, Belvedere, and other adjacent facilities – and take up quite a lot of space in the building.
The District is moving ahead with plans to begin removing the aged chimneys, boilers, and associated network of fuel lines. Associated with this work, there will be asbestos abatement in the boiler room. This work will be undertaken safely by registered abatement contractor Winmar in accordance with all provincial legislation. An Occupational Health and Safety officer from the regulator, ServiceNL, has visited the site and approved the plan.
While there is no effect on any of the building’s students or staff, we nonetheless wanted to let people know the work was underway.
If you have any questions, please contact school administration.
