District Cancels All Extra-curricular Activities Involving
Interaction Between Schools
Effective today, Friday, March 13, the Newfoundland and Labrador English School District (NLESD) has suspended all extra-curricular activities involving interaction between different school populations until further notice.
This includes regional and provincial sports tournaments, heritage fairs, science fairs, drama festivals, or any activity that sees multiple school populations gathered for showcase events or competition.
Tony Stack, CEO/Director of Education of the NLESD, said the decision is in the best interest of student health and public safety, and follows the advice of the Chief Medical Officer of Health, who has asked agencies to consider the potential public health implications of large gatherings.
