English 1200 is an optional course designated for students entering Level I who have not yet developed the reading strategies that enable them to decode, interact with, retain, or interpret print. Typically, students may have struggled with studies in English literature and language in previous years. While the course centers on reading experiences, speaking, listening, writing, viewing and other ways of representing are involved in the teaching and learning activities of this course. It must be programmed concurrently with English 1202 – students cannot register for English 1200 once English 1202 has been completed. Two credits in English are awarded upon successful completion of English 1200.
